John G. Zimmerman (1927-2002) is a true icon of American photography. For decades his pictures appeared on the covers of magazines like Time, Life and Sports Illustrated. Since the 1950’s he introduced experimental techniques, like the motorized camera, which are commonly used today.
His massive oeuvre covers a diversity of fields, from the arts, sports and fashion to politics and Black America. The photographs in this publication present an enduring image of the United States from the 1950’s to the 1970’s.
