Jan Henderik, 2022
“Thinking of Jan Henderik is seeing images. Iconic images: fashion, travels to distant lands, to colorful Afghanistan, to the Sahara. As a young man barely in my twenties, I was deeply impressed by him -and that has never changed.”
– Vincent Mentzel
Jan Henderik (1935–2018) was a photographer, bohemian, and adventurer pur sang. He left behind a vibrant and diverse body of work: from intimate family snapshots and striking portraits to classic street photography, from fashion editorials and nudes to abstract travel documentaries. Raw and compelling is also his series of portraits from the 1970s of residents in the Justus van Effen complex in Rotterdam’s Spangen district. This book brings together an eclectic collection of images by an extraordinary photographer into one powerful, energetic whole.
