Dankzij zijn ligging tussen twee continenten vormt Georgië van oudsher een brug tussen Oost en West. Een verhaal van ontmoetingen weerspiegelt de uitzonderlijke kunst, cultuur en geschiedenis van het land vanaf het neolithicum tot in de achttiende eeuw. Vooral in het ‘gouden tijdperk’ van het verenigde Georgië, tussen de elfde en dertiende eeuw, beleefde het land een ongekende culturele en economische bloei.

In dit boek wordt getoond hoe de woelige geschiedenis en de vele uitwisselingen langs de grote handels- en zijderoutes op dit kruispunt van Europa en Azië resulteerden in een onvoorstelbaar rijk erfgoed, dat tot nog toe grotendeels onbelicht bleef.
