Van de meer dan 40.000 stukken die de Collectie Vlaamse Gemeenschap rijk is, hangt slechts een klein gedeelte in de zalen van de grote musea. Het gros van de verzameling bevindt zich buiten het zicht van het grote publiek.

Reflecties – Blikken op de Collectie Vlaamse Gemeenschap toont voor het eerst het resultaat van jarenlang verzamelen en onthult de diversiteit van kunst in Vlaanderen. Topstukken worden naast onbekende schatten geplaatst. Heden en verleden worden met elkaar verweven in wonderlijke combinaties. Het resultaat is niet alleen een feest voor het oog. Het biedt een verrassend inzicht in de veelheid van benaderingen waarmee je naar kunst kan kijken en laat zien hoe bijzonder de collectie is.

Koenraad Jonckheere is hoogleraar kunstgeschiedenis aan de Universiteit Gent en auteur van de bestseller Another History of Art – 2.500 jaar Europese kunstgeschiedenis.

Of the more than 40,000 pieces that make up the Collection Flemish Community, only a small portion hangs in the halls of major museums. Most of the collection is out of sight of the general public.

Reflections – Views on the Collection Flemish Community reveals for the first time the result of years of collecting and unveils the diversity of art in Flanders. Masterpieces are placed alongside unknown treasures. Present and past are interwoven in marvelous combinations. The result is not only a feast for the eyes but also offers a surprising insight into the multitude of approaches with which one can look at art and demonstrates how unique the collection is.

Koenraad Jonckheere is a professor of art history at Ghent University and the author of the bestseller Another History of Art – 2,500 Years of European Art History.
